The Royal Trollsylvanian Navy

The Navy

The Trollsylvanian Navy was founded late one night following a long and enthusiastic after dinner conversation about sea faring. With heroic tales of pirates and excise men, smugglers and wreckers held afloat on a encouraging sea of the best Trollsylvanian wine.

The revelers drifted deep into the night, together the king -Thorgrim and other dinner guests planned the birth of a national aquatic defence.

Several month later as the first, (shortly to become the only) of the ships was reaching completion, it was timidly pointed out to the King that the shipyard was in fact landlocked and much too far away for the sea to convey the ship. Following a hastily convened meeting of the dinner guests it was decided to home the navy on the nearby lake in the centre of Trollsylvania. This decision was heartily endorsed by the crew who felt that the sea was much to dangerous a place anyway.

So t he navy spends its time sailing the lake looking for smugglers, guarding the shores against invasion and sending weekly reports back to the Admiralty.

The Admiralty

The Admiralty consists of a young troll named Borrin, who lived with his mother and likes a quiet life.

The Admiralty job was given to him as he was the only one in the Kings service who had any experience in any way with naval matters, being the clerk in charge of issuing fishing permits.

His sudden rise in position came as something came as a shock, but the extra income was welcome and it gave his mother something to talk about at the troll woman's guild.

After a time he began to tire of the weekly reports describing the unnatural absence of enemy warships and the fiendishly clever smugglers who constantly avoided detection by the ever vigilant navy.

How he longed to be back, at his old desk issuing fishing permits. From his old office he would overlook the roof of the coach house with the warm reassuring smell of the horses.

Fishing permits he understood, (though in a different way to the many trolls who considered them to be totally unnecessary).

His mother suggested that he should go and inspect the navy in their work and he could even do a little fishing. How could he tell his mother that he was not particularly fond of fishing, she had spent the last twenty years happily searching greeting card shops for birthday cards with fishing scenes.
