One day, a thousand years ago, the Vikings sailed up the River Wye in search of plunder.
Unfortunately, on the day they arrived the place was deserted. There were no monks the Abbey was not there, it had not yet been built, and would not be for another hundred years.
This error of timing caused ill feeling amongst the would be marauders, which lead to raised voices and the inevitable pushing and shoving.
Seeing how things were taking a turn for the worse, the stowaways - a troop of travel-weary trolls - decided to jump ship. They waded ashore and looked around for a bridge, somewhere to live under while they waited for civilisation to arrive.
And here they are today. Civilisation, of a sort, has arrived but by the time it did the trolls had long become tiered of waiting and found other pursuits to occupy their time. |
